Paige Jaeger's blog, Library Door is a MUST read!

Two days of hands-on, student-centered learning! Novice and pros had something to learn and something to share with colleagues. This institute prepared new and seasoned school librarians to return to their building with ideas and confidence to meet the demands of Common Core State Standards (CCSS) instruction.

  • Examined what the Common Core shifts mean for librarians

  • Defined what student-centered learning and participatory learning looks like in the library

  • Examined, learned and practiced how to “repackage” low-level research units for Common Core Alignment. Students, after all, are supposed to “Research to build and present knowledge!”

  • Examined Essential Questions (EQ’s) that drive Inquiry-based learning, the model for deep learning activities, supported in the CCSS.

We learned how to “uncover and discover” rather than cover. This two-day leadership institute helped to turn librarians into building leaders with techniques to share.

Sue.jpgPaige.jpgLed by national presenter and author Paige Jaeger, NYLA/SSL President Sue Kowalski and Paige's co-author Mary Ratzer, participants exited ready to assist teachers in “repackaging” and “aligning” their lessons and research projects to embrace deep learning, complex text integration, vocabulary acquisition and application strategies, and leading independent reading initiatives.

Participants received a certificate for 15 hours of Continuing Education
